Accreditation

The American School of Bilbao has been fully accredited by the Council of International Schools (CIS) and by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) since 1985. Their accreditation serves the public well in that it is a guarantee that the school has continuously met and achieved improvements in serving its students through the school´s mission.

To achieve this status the school had to:

• Undergo a preliminary or preparatory visit to determinate its readiness for the

accreditation process.

• Carry out an in-depth self-study over a one to two year period.

• Host a visiting team of professionals from other institutions who examine all aspects of the school´s operations.

• Demonstrate that it delivers that which it promises in its own mission and objectives.

• Demostrate that it meets the rigorous standards for accreditation laid down by CIS and NEASC.

In February 2012, the American School of Bilbao became an accredited Cambridge International School by the University of Cambridge International Examinations providing the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) at the end of Grade 10.

To achieve this status the school had to:

• Undergo a visit to establish the suitability of the school infrastructure, its teachers and its resources.

• Train teachers for accreditation for internal assessment

• Share in the mission to provide excellence in education
