SCHOOL LIFE

More than a school.
A community.

With 29 nationalities and fewer than 300 students, ASB is a place where everyone knows your name - and your story.

Small school, big world

With students from 29 nationalities, on any given day, you'll hear a dozen languages on our playground. Children grow up surrounded by different cultures and perspectives - not because it's on the curriculum, but because it's the air they breathe.

A school run by parents

ASB is a non-profit school governed by a Board of Trustees made up of current parents - not a corporate school run from headquarters in another country. Every strategic decision is made by people whose own children walk these corridors, creating a level of accountability and care that no corporate model can match.

The PTO - Parents in Action

The Parent-Teacher Organization is the heartbeat of the ASB community. Run entirely by volunteer parents, the PTO organizes social events, fundraisers, and community-building activities throughout the year. From the welcome picnic for new families to the annual International Day celebration, the PTO creates the connections that make ASB feel like home.

The PTO welcomes all families - involvement is easy and always appreciated.

Celebrations & Traditions

Some of the most memorable moments at ASB aren't in the classroom - they're the traditions that bring the whole school together.

Color War
A day of school-wide team competition.

Color War

The whole school divides into teams for a day of friendly competition - soccer, basketball, relay races, tug-of-war, and challenges. It's loud, chaotic, and everyone's favorite day of the year.

International Day
29 nationalities share food, music, and traditions.

International Day

Families share food, music, and traditions from their home countries. With 29 nationalities, it's one of the most colorful days on the calendar - and a powerful reminder of what makes ASB unique.

Spirit Week
A week of themed challenges and school pride.

Spirit Week

A week of themed dress-up days, house competitions, and school-wide challenges that build community and school pride. Every student and teacher gets involved.

Celebration of Learning
Students showcase their inquiry projects.

Celebration of Learning

Each term, students showcase their inquiry projects to parents and the wider community - a chance to see learning in action and celebrate what students have discovered and created.

International experiences

CAS and international exchanges are built into the ASB experience. MUN and other co-curricular programmes extend that learning beyond the classroom — and they're exactly the kind of experiences universities look for in IB graduates.

Every student supported

In a school this size, wellbeing isn't a department - it's a culture. Teachers notice when something is off. The Student Support Services team works alongside families to ensure every child feels safe, supported, and able to learn.

ASB also offers university admissions and career counseling for older students, helping them navigate the transition from school to higher education with confidence and clarity.

Kiva Anti-Bullying Program

ASB implements the Kiva program - an evidence-based anti-bullying initiative developed at the University of Turku. Through structured lessons and a whole-school approach, students learn to recognize, prevent, and address bullying behavior.

Phone-Free Learning

ASB maintains a phone-free environment during the school day. Students are present, engaged, and connected to each other - not to screens.

Safeguarding

The safety and wellbeing of every child is our highest priority. ASB has comprehensive safeguarding policies, regular staff training, and clear reporting procedures. Every adult in our community is trained and accountable.

Come and see for yourself

The best way to understand ASB's community is to be in it - even for an hour. Visit us, meet the teachers, and feel the difference.
